The divisional reconciliation forum of Irakkamam members were conducted the grand peacewalk and cutural event on 2024.05.11 . Multi ethnic communities were taken part this event. They araised the voice for peace in Sri Lanka.
On 05th of May 2024, our community came together for a vibrant Peace Walk and Cultural Event, fostering unity and promoting cultural understanding. The event, organized by our Divisional Reconciliation Forum and supported by Peace & Community Action, saw enthusiastic participation from residents, local leaders, and various cultural groups.
The Peace Walk commenced at Hingurana junction and followed a scenic route through Varipathanchenai through Irakkamam main road. Symbolizing the journey towards harmony and mutual respect. Participants, adorned with colorful attire and holding banners advocating peace, walked in solidarity, spreading messages of love and unity. The atmosphere was filled with positivity as people from diverse backgrounds walked side by side, engaging in meaningful conversations and forging new connections.
Following the walk, the Cultural Event took place at Cultural Hall-Irakkamam, where a multitude of activities highlighted the richness of our community’s cultural heritage. The event featured performances by local artists, including traditional dances, music, and theatrical presentations, showcasing the unique traditions of various ethnic groups. Attendees also enjoyed a diverse array of culinary delights from different cultures, adding a flavorful touch to the celebration.






In addition to the performances, there were interactive workshops and exhibitions where attendees could learn about different cultural practices and traditions. The event also included speeches from community leaders, emphasizing the importance of peace, inclusivity, and cultural appreciation in building a stronger, more cohesive community.
The Peace Walk and Cultural Event was a resounding success, leaving participants inspired and hopeful for a future marked by greater understanding and cooperation. This celebration of diversity not only strengthened community bonds but also highlighted the collective commitment to peace and cultural harmony.
